Summary | 0003147: The installer shows a BSD-like license under which FAR itself is distributed, but not some automatically installed plugins
Description | The installer shows the BSD-like license located here: http://farmanager.com/license.php?l=en The default installation of FAR manager also includes plugins, so this installation altogether is capable of unpacking RAR archives. On the other hand, all standalone RAR unpackers I found are distributed under a different license, which has serious freedom issues, it does not allow "reverse engineering in order to reproduce RAR packing algorithm". I asked about this situation at the FAR forum here: http://forum.farmanager.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9989&p=134684 , and the reply (from a moderator, actually) was that the BSD-like license applies to FAR itself, but not to the plugins. If this reply was correct, then the license infromation in the installer is misleading since it installs software, which should be distributed under licenses different from what the installer says.
Steps To Reproduce | 1. Uninstall FAR if it is already installed. 2. Run installer and accept the BSD-like license. 3. Install FAR with the default settings. 4. Unpack RAR archives.
Additional Information | Aren't FAR and RAR developed by the same team?
