Summary | 0003990: FAR 3.0.6116 "Search" dialog in Editor/Viewer is damaged now - no working reverse search, no hotkeys
Description | 1) Previous builds of FAR had a "[ ] Hex search" option for Search dialog. Now this option is absent at all. So, how to search for Hex? I found that in changelog: MZK 2023-01-22 09:32:07-08:00 - build 6096 1. Added "Search for Hex" functionality to the unified SearchReplace dialog. Internal implementation only; no user-visible changes are expected. 2) Previous build of FAR had an option "[ ] Reverse Search" with a HotKey "Alt+V" (I used it all my practice). It's worked well. Now this checkbox is removed, hotkey is removed and now there is a button "Search up" with hotkey "u". But on practice this "Search Up" button (functionality) is not working.
Steps To Reproduce | For example, I have an UFT-8 file with a few strings "dohod" inside. If I searching from the top of file to the end, using "Search down", then Shift+F7, Shift+F7, Shift+F7, ..., all is working fine. Search down is working. But if I moving cursor to the end of file and trying to "Search Up" - it find the first one from the end, but if I pressing "Shift+F7" to search upper... it doesn't find anything more. So, reverse search (search up) is totally broken with combination of Shift+F7 (Next). But if press "F7", then again "Search Up" - it will find a new string upper (and you can continue to search using again - F7, Search Up, but not "Next"). So, Search Up is working, but it is broken a combination of "Search Up" and then "Next" (Shift+F7).
Additional Information | It seems that someone decide to change a common a very usable dialogs without a votes and old UX-compatibility

Found in changelog: ========================================== MZK 2023-03-07 20:13:03-08:00 - build 6114 1. gh-600: Shift+F7 and Alt+F7 now search in absolute directions (down or up respectfully) instead of reversing the direction defined by the last invocation of the Search / Replace dialog. Also, on the dialog itself, replaced "Reverse" checkbox with "Search Down / Up" buttons. ========================================== How this changes maybe done without any vote/etc, just broke a many years of UX of FAR? |

It seems that historical UI/UX for xUSSR software is changed now by the copying UX from different US-based software (like Total/Windows Commander, Explorer, Visual Studio and some others) - that always had a different interfaces/dialogs/hotkeys. And this difference is really huge. I think this is not a correct behavior to allow such changes. |

Editor search did not have the Hex option, Viewer search still has it, see the new radio button above the search text edit field. And it still has a hotkey. It's wrong, now Shift+F7 searches down, Alt+F7 searches up — regardless of which button you used in the dialog. Please refer to the updated Help. The changes have nothing to do with xUSSR/USA/PRC/DRC or any other country. Please don't bring unnecessary discord into FAR community. |

The main sense/goal of that ticket, that common very usable dialogs that exists for a years are changed dramatically without any votes, just by one person decision. I think it is wrong practice for a big users base. For example, different behaviour of Shift+F7, missing hotkey Alt+V - these are the habits for a years. I see this, because I copied text from changelog. But why this behavior were changed from a previous one? It exists for many-many years. Now it is like someone will change all bottom bar keys functionality (F1-F10) to other, just mixing up. So, all custom use for users for many years are now broken. It was not a political phrase (sorry), I mean a different many-years-practice in different regions. (For example, you can compare hotkeys for search/replace in NC/VC/FAR vs Explorer/Word/Excel/etc). |

I agree that Far UI is written in muscle memory and it shall not be changed without possibility to return to original style. |
